I would imagine making a statement out of nowhere (e.g. going to a political newsroom and making a statement) and being asked his opinion would carry different weights, but maybe that's wrong.
And if so, would saying something like "I voted for Ron Paul" qualify for that penalty?
I doubt he got much more than a warning from his C.O.....but I will bet all military Commanders were told by the Secretary of Defense to remind the troops that this is a no no.
